You can use them on saltwater. In fact there is a forum called Reef Central and thee are many people using them.
If you are expecting very low readings I would suggest you go with the HI736 model (measure Phosphorus) then just multiply the reading by .003 to get PO4.
Here is some info on each meter.
The HI713 meters accuracy is +/-.04 + +/-4% of reading.
For example:
0ppm the accuracy is +/-.04
1ppm the accuracy is +/-.08
2ppm the accuracy is +/-.12
If you are looking for a more precise measurement you should consider using the HI736 Phosphorus Ultra Low Range meter.
This meter +/-5ppb + +/-5% of reading
This meters range is from 0 to 200 ppb (.20ppm) of Phosphorus. You would just have to do some conversion to get the reading into ppm of PO4.
To convert the phosphorus (P) reading on this meter in to phosphate (PO4) you would have to multiply by .003
For example:
Meter reads:
10ppb of P = .03ppm PO4
100ppb = .30ppm PO4
200ppb = .60ppm PO4

Pete

thanks, Pete!
My friends asked the Hanna technical support in China, but their answer is the phosphate photometers are only used for industrial waste water. We are just worried about maybe it's not appropriate for marine water test. Are you sure the seawater will not effect the test result of the phosphate concentration?
Thank you very much!

Melogy,
You would probably want the HI96713 low range model.
We also have the HI713 or HI736 which would work too.

Pete

Hi,
I am considering to purchase a phosphate photometer to measure the phosphate
in my aquarium (seawater). I'm not sure whether the HI 96717 or HI96713 can
be used to test seawater. Thank you very much! |
