The Stripey (Microcanthus strigatus) is a very common species found on shallow protected reefs of Australia抯 eastern and western coasts. It is generally always found in small schools that can be found living around the same rock formation for long periods. They are often seen under wharfs and jetties where they can be found moving around the pylons. Juveniles can often been seen in coastal rockpools and their diet is made up of small invertebrates and algae picked from rocks or suspended matter. The Stripey grows to a maximum size of approximately 16 cm.
